What is the LinkedIn SSI and Why Does it Matter for Business Owners?
If you're active on LinkedIn, you might have seen a metric called the Social Selling Index, or SSI.
It’s LinkedIn’s way of measuring how effectively you're using the platform to build relationships and generate business opportunities.
But what does it really mean and why should business owners or sales professionals care?
Let’s break it down.
WHAT IS LINKEDIN’S SOCIAL SELLING INDEX?
LinkedIn’s SSI score rates your performance across four key areas, providing you with a total score out of 100. The four areas are:
Establishing Your Professional Brand: How well you complete your profile, post content and get noticed.
Finding The Right People: How well you use LinkedIn’s tools to connect with your ideal audience.
Engaging With Insights: How actively you like, comment, share and message.
Building Relationships: How well you’re nurturing and growing your network, especially with decision makers.
You can check yours by clicking the link below. It's free, even without Sales Navigator.
As an example, here’s a snapshot of an SSI score:
📈 Total Score: 56/100
🏆 Top 3% of people in the industry
🌍 Top 18% of the LinkedIn network

Here’s how it breaks down by category:
Build Relationships: 24.06 (Strong)
Establish Professional Brand: 14.12 (Moderate)
Engage With Insights: 11.00 (Moderate)
Find the Right People: 6.80 (Needs attention)
This tells me we’re building connections well, but we can improve by posting more helpful content, engaging more often and refining the targeting.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Even if you’re not in sales, your SSI score demonstrates how effectively you're using LinkedIn to grow your brand, nurture partnerships and position yourself as a leader in your field.
Higher scores are often associated with profiles that have:
More visibility
More opportunities
More leads or inbound interest
Better quality conversations
In fact, LinkedIn's own data shows that professionals with a higher SSI score generate 45% more opportunities and are 51% more likely to hit their targets.
